Recognition and Prevention

Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma (PAHT) means the various injuries or conditions that may result following the vigorous shaking, slamming or impacting the head of an infant of young child. PAHT has also been called "Shaken Baby Syndrome or Shaken Infant Syndrome".
This course will meet section 15 KRS 335:130 amended statute for social workers who are: Licensed Social Workers (LSW), Certified Social Workers (CSW) and Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) who must complete (PAHT) 1.5 CE hours at least once every six years per license renewal. This requirement was passed in the 2010 KY General Assembly.

Participants will be able to:
Define Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma (PAHT)
Have a knowledge base on types of injuries or conditions associated with PAHT
Explain the risk factors related to PAHT
Describe prevention strategies
Demonstrate reporting requirements related to child maltreatment
Identify and utilize community resources related to prevention and treatment of PAHT
